This suggestion reminded me of how I used to use my lyre, on the usual
middle joint and turned around so that it faced down, to set my Bb down
without bending the keys/rods. I would set the clarinet down balanced on
the bell and the lyre. Not that I recommend this arrangement for its
stablity, but sometimes I needed to free up my hands briefly and didn't
have a stand handy.
