And you may be even more discomfited if 30 years hence,
in the prime of your career, you've developed tendon problems
as a result of incorrect usage today. That could hurt your wallet
significantly more.

Clarinets have become heavier oover the years (at least as
far as I can tell after handling a number of clarinets from
early to late 1800s over at the Blue Lake museum). What may
not have bothered someone in an earlier age may bother us today,
as a result of the increasing weight of the clarinets.

The clarinets I played around with over at the museum had
thin pins for thumb rests, but I don't think I'd experience
any pain even I if played for hours on them.
