At the risk of irritating the uninterested KLARINETists, I'll reply to Carl
on this forum.

MIDISCAN will scan up to 24 pages at a time and convert the score first to
a proprietary .MND format and then will output to a MIDI file. A VERY clean
score will yield results that require perhaps a 1% clean-up before going
to a MIDI format. BUT, (and this is a big but), where a piano is playing,
say, four eighth notes and a half note (or two quarter notes) simultaneously,
on the same staff,
MIDISCAN catches that and puts it in correctly to the .MND file and even
the MIDI file (I think -- I'm not sure), but the MIDI file never imports
correctly into
Finale; the half or quarter notes end up as eighths; a second cleanup is
required.

The MIDISCAN address is

Finale allows one to enter music via a MIDI "wind controller," an instrument
manufactured by several companies, including Yamaha. A number of other
music notation programs allow that as well, I believe.

Good luck,

Oliver
