>Hi Richard,

The Vito saxophone is a very good student line instrument! It, along with
the Yamaha YAS23, is the only student line saxophone I will accept in my
band. I don't think, however, that it is quite as good as some of the top
line saxophones. It plays very much like the YAS23, although it does seem
to be made with a slightly heavier metal and, therefore, sounds a little
darker, (which is a plus in my book).

In my top groups, though, we use professional grade instruments. We bought
Yamaha 62 Altos, Tenor and Bari. and I am using vintage Buescher necks,
Rascher mouthpieces, and Rovner Mark III ligatures with Glotin Classical #5
or #4.5 reeds. I hope to eventually change to Keilworths if we can come up
with the money, but the combination we're using sounds really marvelous. By
the way, I also use foam rubber insulation strips, rolled to fit the bell,
in the end of the bell. I've been told that this is cheating, but it takes
all of the edge out of the sound. They are able to blend with anything.
One thing about the Yamaha instruments is that they play so well in tune.
So far, we haven't found another instrument that can match it for
intonation.

Anyway, to my way of thinking and listening, the Vito is a far better
sounding student line instrument than any others I've heard or tried!
