Klarinetters,
I am collaborating with some of my acquaintences to design a
reed-making machine. All of us are clarinet players and work on reeds way
too much. Right now, we have it (designed) to measure the thickness of the
wood (we hope to develop a way to measure the denisty) and then balance the
reed, etc... Between the four of us, we know most of the tricks of
reed-making (i.e. exactly what a shave off of the right side will do, etc...
and we are working on programming that), but I was wondering if anybody
knows any little-known tips on reed working. I would appreciate all of your
responses, as it will speed the completion of this project.

Thanks,
Ryan Lowe

Please excuse the brevity of this composition.
