Leblanc makes a stand specifically for the curved BBb contrabass and EEb
contralto (its adjustable to fit either one). It has a sturdy (and heavy!)
folding tripod base, with a separate bracket that holds the instrument.
The bottom loop is cradled, as well as one of the middle crossbars, with a
leather strap that snaps over the crossbar for extra security. The cradle
can be removed from the base, and you can actually play the horn with the
cradle attached. For that matter, the cradle height is adjustable, so you
could play the horn while on the stand, even standing if you like. I have
a few pictures of it, although not yet linked into a page. See
http://www.contrabass.com/pages/cbcl-std.jpg and
http://www.contrabass.com/pages/cbclstnd.jpg for pictures of the stand,
with and without the contrabass.

I obtained mine by ordering through the Woodwind & Brasswind. It isn't in
their catalog, but they sell them all the same. As I recall, WW&BW had it
drop-shipped directly from Leblanc in Kenosha WI. Fairly reasonably
priced, too.
