Hello everyone!
My name is Chris Hoffman, and I am probably one of the biggest clarinet and
music enthusiasts you ever met. In addition to playing the clarinet, I play
piano, violin, trumpet, percussion, and sing countertenor. I can play all the
instruments in an orchestra and band, except for harp and bagpipes, and play
them well. I did this for further music appreciation. My ultimate desire is
to become a symphony maestro and have a Ph.D in music. I teach music lessons
now and plan on continuing. I will also perfom as a soloist and compose on
the side.
As I said, I do teach. I have students in piano, clarinet, and one trumpet.
One of my clarinet students has downs syndromw, and she was given to me by the
school because they thought she was unteachable. Well, I worked long and
hard, and now she plays in tune, with a nice sound for a Vito plastic
clarinet! I feel that is one of my greatest accomplishments.
I also compose. To this date (age 16), I have written over 250 compositions,
many of them scored for full orchestra. I have a ballet, a partial opera, two
symphonies, and concertos for almost every instrument. I felt that learning
all the instruments was beneficial to my writing, because now I know the pros
and cons of each instrument. I know what to highlight in music. It makes my
pieces more realistic. In conducting, it will make me a more understanding
conductor. (Geez, sound like a "band-geek" yet? LOL)
I play on a Leblanc Opus clarinet with an Ignatius N. Gennusa mouthpiece, BG
Reveltaion ligature, and Gran Concert Select Thick Blank 3.5 reeds. I am
really thrilled with the way the new Leblancs perform! Before I had the Opus,
I had a Concerto, but it was stolen. And before that I had a Buffet R-13. My
first clarinet was a Yamaha student wood model 32 or 34.
I have been first chair in many honor bands, orchestras, music camps, as well
as in my school. I really love making music, and I am glad I am now part of
this group of other music lovers to discuss music! Hope to talk more later!
Respectfully,
Chris Hoffman
