There are other people who have been fired for technicalities such as
arriving late for rehearsals too many times.....often the management was
already looking for a reason to fire them.

I am aware of a similar situation in the Oregon Symphony.....a former bass
clarinetist was unhappy with his salary/situation and was unsuccessful
negotiating a better contract.......he ended up saying things about the
conductor (James DePriest) that he shouldn't have....he showed up an hour
late for a rehearsal or a concert.......(can't remember which!) after the
time changed between daylight sayvings and standard time.......and it was
his second infraction. The contract said two late rehearsals or
performances and you may be fired.....he was.

He later showed up at an event out of state for which DePriest was
conducting and threatened him.......called him in the hotel room, etc.
Pretty bad scene!
