Hi Pat,
I appreciate your comments. If you promise not to tell <grin>, I paid
$550 plus tax for the horn, mainly because I thought it was truly
unique, and, it is in 'like new' condition.
If the dealer had told me it was new, aside from some calcium on the
mouthpiece, I would never had known the difference. This was the first
bassett I had seen for sale any where before, so I bought it. Now, it
appears to be an alto clarinet instead. It was on consignment from an
estate so I couldn't negotiate with the actual seller. I have an old
wood Kohlert Alto that I am restoring and it is missing the neck, so I
really don't need nor can I afford another alto. I have relayed my
feelings about the deal to the dealer and am awaiting his response. I
was hoping that he would just take the horn back, but that may be
wishful thinking.
You are so nice to express your concerns. That helps. So much of what
is said on Klarinet sounds so intelligent, and I feel so uninformed,
that I hesitated to even broach this subject on the net. I feel better
now that I have, thanks to you and others.

Sincerely,
Dick Damon
