Hindemith, (in my estimation), wrote fine sonatas, concerti, and other wind
solos. Most of his other music is quite good as well. I think his greatest
contribution was his Ludus Tonalis, (which is a set of fugues for
keyboard)..I would love to see someone transcribe those for band or other
ensembles. I am also grateful that he wrote important music for the band,
such as the Symphony in Bb. So, I guess that my opinion is that he was a
very important composer who performed a great service for all of the winds
by contributing important works to the repertoire.
