As nearly as I can tell from my close retail association with them, LA Sax
horns are lacquered and assembled in their plant in Barrington, IL. The
parts are from Taiwan. They also sell a line called, ironically,
"Barrington," which is manufactured entirely in Taiwan, but uses the same
design. They are virtually identical in design to E.M. Winston saxes. (I
own a Winston soprano, and I think it was a great buy. It's not a Selmer,
but it didn't cost $3000 either!) I've sold numerous LA and Barrington
sopranos, and have heard no complaints.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is too loud.
