I don't personally think that LA Sax horns are pro quality (we sell them),
although I know one pro (Bill Holloman) who plays the hell out of his LA
tenor (with blue and yellow and white swirl finish). I highly recommend
their sopranos (even their cheaper Barrington line), though, as a terrific
horn for the price.

Also highly recommended, if you LIKE a dark sound, is the Yamaha YAS-875
Pro Custom Alto. Fantastic horn! Very warm yet big sound, fluid response,
and the kind of intonation you wouldn't think possible on a saxophone!
I've told people before that I would trade my Selmer Mark VI even up for
one and I was only HALF kidding. I know two people who have the YTS-875
tenors, and they wouldn't trade them for ANYTHING! They're not cheap, but
slightly less than Selmers at current exchange rates.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is too loud.
