I, too, gag through the Steve Allen (he actually learned to play
clarinet somewhat to make the picture) up-chuck film, but, hey, there's
some great playing by the rest of the band, especially the Lionel
Hampton stuff in the restaurant. Since I had the pleasure of meeting
Benny (and playing duets with him at Bob Gilberts), Steve Allen was
somewhat more animated that Benny was in real like. By the way: what's
the name of the silly film that set Goodman as a square college
professor introduced to jazz?
