I never figured I'd be playing something that looked like an instrument
from the Met. Are you sure that the instrument was an R-13? Buffet had a
limited edition of the clear/gold keyed B-12 model clarinets a few years
back, you could get them through WW&BW for less than $400.00. They *are*
very beautiful. I managed to snag one when I needed to get a decent
marching instrument. It doesn't sound bad-- a good instrument for an
amateur like myself. Since then I've rarely used it marching but do use
it in my Dixieland band, with a swirled black/brown Vandoren 5JB mouthpiece
that match the red gold (actually copper) keys very nicely.
I wouldn't sell or trade it for the world, even if my trumpet player makes
constant fun of the visible condensation.
