I was in the Metropolitan Museum musical instrument collection in New Yor=
k
a couple of weeks ago and saw a stunningly beautiful Buffet R-13 in
transparent plastic with gold keys. It's on temporary exhibition, and no=
t
part of their permanent collection. The label said it was made recently =
as
a one of a kind presentation instrument. What I wouldn't give to have it=
,
or at least play it!
Francois Kloc -- could you try to have it brought to the ClarinetFest? I=
t
would produce a senation. Does it play well? Or is it not intended to b=
e
played, but just looked at?
Incidentally, the temporary exhibition at the Met has a number of other
interesting instruments, including William Kincaid's famous platinum Powe=
ll
flute. The permanent collection has a number of beautiful early basset
horns and an amazing serpentine bass clarinet, not to mention an original=
Christofori fortepiano and several Stradivarius violins.
