Actually, I have an old Beacon clarinet that seems to be made out of a similar
composite. The material is made of the same stuff as school desks. I cannot
remember the trade name for that material (Gardnerite?) I believe it was
developed around the middle of this century and it utilized wood/dust
particles that were scrap from the local furniture industry. That Beacon also
has a metal bore sleeve, which seems odd considering the material would not
change due to weather.

BTW, I bought a new Greenline and it plays terrific. The tuning is impeccable
and sounds great. It feels a tad heavier than most of the wood models, but is
barely noticable. I'm completely sold on this product and will play this
model forever (i.e. plastic) if given the opportunity and choice. Bye Bye
