This may sound like me being spoiled, but anyway. Just last Tuesday I
went to ask my director about who is playing the clarinet part in the
Mozart Mass in C, and considering there is only one, only one of us can
play it. So I asked her, who is playing it? She had mentioned that my
partner was going to play it, then stopped and thought for a minute and
asked me if I wanted to play it. I said sure, because I did not want to
let her down. Just last Thursday, she told my partner that I was doing it,
and mentioned that his grandparents were coming to town and that that was
the only time they could see him play. So in compromising with that, she
let him play instead. However, today he was more frustrated that I
actually asked her, first rather than talk to him about it because he
wanted it. I did not know I had to ask him first, and I always ask her
because I am never notified about anything? I feel ignored sometimes. I do
have a right to ask. I did not really care much if I got the part or not.
He is the first player, so it would make sense if he had it first, however
she made the decision and he should have not been frustrated. Did I do
something wrong here?
