There is actually one major difference: the size/concentration of the
market. Only one in 100 people is even a POTENTIAL customer for music
merchandise! I wish I could remember the source of this data, but I can't.
(I believe it, though. Remember, YOUR group of friends is not
representative if you hang around with musicians!) A LOT more people have
cars and VCR's than instruments. Chain stores may indeed eventually come
to dominate the market, but not as inevitably as it might first appear.
