I think in this instance that a better word than "resonates" might be
"vibrates." Still, while this variable quality of materials can be said
to have been proven, it has not been proven that this has any appreciable
effect on the tone of wind instruments. We intuitively feel that it ought
to have a significant effect, but all scientific efforts to prove this
have resulted in the exact opposite conclusion. You can read this in many
books on acoustics, by such authors as Benade, Backus, etc. We have to
remember that the properties of woodwind instruments are the result of a
vibrating air column, not a vibrating instrument.
