As a big fan of the above Steve Reich piece, written for Richard
Stoltzman's album of the same title, I was surprised when an LP I picked
up second hand of a later Reich piece, "Electric Counterpoint" for
elec.guitar (played by Pat Metheny!) turned out to be veritably a carbon
copy of the clarinet piece, form and even melodic materials. Reminds one
of Vivaldi's inter-piece similarity, or Beethoven's Choral Fantasy-Ode To
Joy.

For anyone who hasn't heard the clarinet version (for one soloist playing
with 11 other parts to overdubbing, or as a large live ensemble) it's a
great expansive piece and worth checking out.
