Bill is right. I play with two woodwind ensembles. My "all classical" ensemble
is well appreciated but my popular music (meaning show tunes, old standards,
even familiar opera arias) ensemble garners more enthusiastic comments...and
more paying gigs. Money isn't everything and I understand that you must be
true to your art--but music is for PEOPLE. If you can hook them with stuff
they know, you can use the opportunity to "educate" them with music with which
they may be less familiar.
