Klarinet Archive - Posting 001439.txt from 1998/04

Subj: [klarinet] Info on the new Klarinet mail server
Date: Sat, 25 Apr 1998 11:13:33 -0400

The new Klarinet mail server is up and running, just waiting to
be used. Please start using the klarinet@-----.org mail address
for posting; the old address will be turned off after the stroke
of midnight tonight.

There's been a few queries about the new mailing list. One was
about getting a list of members. This used to be pretty easy to
do - you just sent a message out and the system sent you a list.

The subscription list is now restricted; only the list "moderators"
can retrieve the master list of subscribers. If you need a copy send
a request to klarinet-owner@-----.org, and one of us (Jim
Fay, Cap Bromley, or Mark Charette) will forward you a copy. This
keeps our valuable addresses out of spammer's hands.

All maintenance (get postings, digests, subscribe, unsubscribe,
etc.) is done via the mail address. There Subject and body of
the messages to those special addresses is tossed away, so if your
mailer requires you to put a Subject or Body into your messages,
go right ahead, it won't confuse the system.

All subscribe/unsubscribe requests send back a special confirmation
to you. This keeps Josephine or Joe Random User from subscribing
or unsubscribing people for fun. There's an embedded cryptographic
code in the address which identifies who and when the request went
in. Just hit the "Reply" button and your subscribe/unsubscibe request
will go through. For those of you who have problems sending the
confirmation back, please forward it to klarinet-owner@-----.

A list of commands available can be retrieved by sending a message
to klarinet-help@-----.

All MIME stuff in messages (html, gif files, MIDI files, ms-tnef, etc.)
is stripped out before posting. If you really need to post something
of this nature, please send a message to klarinet-owner@-----.
