Subj: [klarinet] Audition Piece

I've been asked to give my opinion on what to recommend as the District
(regional) Auditions Solo Piece. Here in Penn. we use 3 (or 4) solos and
rotate them yearly. They are in the process of changing the list.
My question is:
What are 4 pieces that you would like to have on the Audition List for
Clarinet?
This is for High School students, and must not cost more then $10 per piece
so as to be affordable to all students. ($10 is the criterion, not by my
choice). Must be a solo (w/piano or unaccomp.) selection, NOT an etude.
The piece must be challenging enough to determine the best players, but not
so hard that ONLY the best players can do it.
I want to hear from both Judges, and players who have been there, done that.
