This is an interesting question. When I was in school, marches were
printed in that tiny format used by marching bands. They all had copyright
dates of 1917 on them (must have been a change in copyright laws then).
Since I have started playing again, I have noticed that all the marches we
play have an arranger's name on them. Clearly this is because the original
copyrights have all expired and someone wants to make some money on them.
My ears think they are close to the originals, but my eyes aren't sure.
