I respectfully disagree with this statement. I never find a written
record of a person's professional history as completely unreliable or
useless, and, if necessary, it is an acceptable way to narrow a pool.
There is no completely reliable method to narrow a pool of applicants down
for any position anywhere......sometimes the best person is never
considered. It is not always fair, but it is the way of the world. What
I DO find unacceptable however, is the notion that all major orchestras
can afford to hear everyone who applies for an audition. This is
completely unacceptable.
