This phrase got me to think: No but he or she can teach you how to play the
clarinet. Aren't we (students) studying to learn how to play the clarinet? Or
it is just my point of view maybe... But I think that if one can play the
clarinet, she or he can learn ecxerpts and play them well. Even if I would
love to have a regular chair in a SO, I know that I wouldn't like to only
know how to play orchestral excerpts (after years and years of running them
everyday) and not actually "simply" play well any music that comes under my
eyes. My goal: I want to know how to play the clarinet and don't want to be an
"orchestral excerpts machine" ;-) .
