Wynton Marsalis is well-known for his circular breathing
on trumpet. On a PBS special he basically stated that, while
not a circus trick, it was frowned upon by his jazz peers
when used to excess (Wynton made excessive use of it in his
early jazz career, at least according to him). He didn't
say (in my recollection) anything about circular breathing
in his legit playing.

I've heard a recording by Bebe Black on trumpet where, if
recording magic wasn't performed, she _had_ to be circular
breathing.
