I assumed that was his point, but he should have stated it himself. Most
artists have a favorite pattern that seems to appear with some regularity. So
do composers, arrangers and anyone else in music. One can recognize Mazart in
an instant, also Benny Goodman! I felt myself and others, (espscially the
student who phrase used the [honest] term were being talked down to
unnecissarily. We were just saying we liked and admired ED as a player. My
original comment also praised Ken Peplowski. I didn't see any need for
trashing because of our opinions.

I have played clarinet for 50+ yrs. I Know how good I am, but more importantly
i KNOW HOW GOOD i'M NOT, and can keep both in perspective. I don't have to
attempt to glorify my abilities by belittling others.

As far as ED being not a nice person, neither was Toscaninni, and Benny
Goodman was one of the worst! It's a human trait,

I guess to lose patience with people with less ability and lower standards
than our own.

Not having played "live gigs" with at least half the musicians in the world, I
will say that I've at least heard of the individuals previously mentioned

I don't know musician's personalities, but I think I can recognize ability.
I'm more interested in what they do than what they are.
