Subj: re:ICA past winners list (request)

The San Francisco job was won by someone who had to get Gigliotti to "make
the call" because the Columbus Sym. was not "in their league", and the
player was rejected on resume alone. He now recently won the last
Cincinnati audition

I think that the ICA should have a list of past winners (1st-3rd place) and
include that list in their yearly Clar-fest booklet. The NFA Flute
convention does that, and it is neat to see the names of past winners, and
to know who is doing what. ICA: come on, what do you think? We all know the
name of Jon Manasse, but who won 2nd,3rd that year??, etc..

In fact, I would be willing to wager that most people who win orchestra
jobs have won some other major audition such as a solo competition or
Tanglewood Music Center audition or the like. On what facts do you base
these statements? I'm sure that an official of the ICA might have more
information on what has happened to past winners of the ICA competition,
but I would also be willing to wager that a good number of them have
continued in music professionally.
