Perhaps the "hardball" music programs have to play is pulling the band off
the field with the excuse that they don't have enough money to field the
band! I don't want to start Marching Band World War III (I am NOT a fan!),
but from what I've read in MBWWI and MBWWII, marching bands seem to be what
the jock community notices from the music program (and the lack of a
marching band is the aspect that is most likely to cause outcry!).

Put the departments money towards music FIRST! Then, if the board wants the
sports-related stuff, let them fork over the funds!
