Liz,
Start handling your own publicity! Find "story angles" on your
department and contact your local newspapers and TV news stations. A lot of
advertising nowadays is done by making it "news" (anyone in the Baltimore
area that is living through the Sinai Hospital ER-7 campaign can attest to
this!). Does your group do any "community work" (playing at nursing homes,
parades, etc.)? Tell them! Will revenues from an upcoming concert help the
band do something specific? Tell them! Is there a specific student in your
department who has achieved success somewhere? Tell them!
My guess is that when photographers start coming to your events, your
principle (spelled "le" because she's NOT your "pal"!) will be there!
Good luck!

P.S. How can a principal determine who gets to play in the musical?!! What
do they do? Hum?!!!!
