What do you think college football programs are? They are giant PR
machines! The marching band is considered to be a part of that. What
would Notre Dame be today without the fame it got from the football teams
of the 1920's? Probably still a tiny provincial liberal arts college.
Today, the PR continues to draw the attention that brings quality students,
faculty, etc. The same applies to other institutions.
