I find this an interesting topic that has come up. Some people
see this to be a religious thing.....or maybe spiritial of some sort. I
think that much of people's love of music stems from the fact that they
get to be part of something.....something bigger and often older than
themselves. A music group (orchestra, quartet, wind band, marching band)
works as a team and strives for a goal.....sometimes power....many times
beauty. Good music has an effect on an audience and sometimes even
a greater effect on the musician. It is one of life's natural highs. We
get to work with other people that have gotten to know and love this
high which seems to creat a kind of bond or botherhood among many
musicans. When we get a fresh crop of new freshman music major here on
campus it is very easy to get to know them and each other which happens
more in our department than any other on campus. These things are why
music is so important to a clarineard like myself. =)
