Actually, at my school there is, for when we go to band camp

Yes, only upkeep of expensive instruments, tuning of pianos, replacing of
drum/timpani heads, lost mallets, new music....

What do you mean rare?? I have one on friday, in fact.. they happen all the
time

except for concerts, after school special rehearsals, sectionals, private
lessons that are somtimes held at school, and any *good* marching band does
not practice in a parking lot. try telling the football team to practice in
the parking lot. We use the same markings (hash, etc)
whatever....
