Absolutely, as far as I'm concerned! The document "Music in Catholic Worship"
identifies 3 criteria for music selection - the musical judgment (is it a
worthy example of the kind of music it is), the liturgical judgment (is it
appropriate to the liturgical season or place in the service one plans to use
it), and the pastoral judgment (does this piece of music help this assembly to
pray). I think that allows quite a lot of leeway in terms of sources of
music. The important thing is to remember the music shouldn't draw too much
attention to itself - it's not a performance in the usual sense. And since,
as so many have pointed out, there's not a lot specifically written for
clarinet for liturgical use, we have to be a little creative. Why not Jewish
music? I can think of times where that might be just the sound I want. -
