I am now a full time musician(clarinet/wwinds and coloratura soprano), but my
first degree is in Chemistry Education, and I actually taught a few years. My
best friend has degrees in chemical and biomedical engineering and works at
the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, and since I've introduced her to
opera, she's been taking private lessons from the best teachers in town, and
it turns out she's a dramatic soprano with great potential! She and I are
forming our own quartet with friends to perform at retirement communities,
etc. She also used to play clarinet in hs, and was first chair. In Delaware,
the Dupont Co. has so many chemists who are amateur musicians that they have a
company band! There is definitely a connection between the sciences and
talent for music.
ps I still love to watch Discovery Channel and any other science-related
programming, as well as the artsy stuff.
