You could always transpose Eb clarinet music or possibly use A Clarinet/Bass
Clarinet/etc, etc... music which would only require reading a half step down.
The only problem with a lot of that music would be the range. The bottom
register of the Ab is rather thin, so Alto Sax, Bass Clarinet, Alto Clarinet and
others might not be preferable pieces to read. However, there is plenty of A
Clarinet stuff. Maybe an Orchestral Excerpts book would provide some fun
reading.

It is a shame there isn't more music written for Ab, because that's something
I'd love to try -- though I get plenty of flack just for playing Eb :)

This may have been stated, because I came in on this thread late, but do you
have an Ab in your possession? That would have to be pretty rare.
