However - I wouldn't be a stickler for precision when asking a
math major to remember the square root of 19; an approximation
would be sufficient. I think we have to remember that if we required
preciseness in language on this list then very few of us would
have the time to post. I have time to write little notes only between
spurts of furious activity (You should ask my co-workers what those
"spurts" look like :^) I _do_ have to work for a living at something
that doesn't resemble clarinet playing at all). If I had to proof my
postings any more than I do now then I'd never have time to do much
else. My Web pages get proofed more extensively, and there I endeavour
to get the spelling and syntax right. Not so much here. Let's realize
a happy medium here.
