Way back in college (when mastodons roamed the Earth) I went to a
mouthpiece seminar that Dan Johnston was giving. Towards the end, he
asked volunteers to come up and have their mouthpieces refaced. I leapt
up with my Vandoren crystal in hand.

He scowled at me. His displeasure wasn;t that the glass mouthpiece
wasn't any good--he thought the material irrelevant--but that they were
much harder to work on.

I used that mouthpiece for about 12 years. I liked it better than the
rubber ones (which I still use). It met the same end as all glass
mouthpieces do, unfortunately--tip damage.

If he would reface another one, I'd buy it.

it is a MUCH superior mouthpiece (as compared to the VanDoren) in just
about all aspects. My only two complaints are that 1) dynamic range
doesn't seem to be as great as a good hard rubber mouthpiece, and 2)
