Another "trick" I've used is to rub wax from, say, a candle into the threads
of the screw before installing it. This gives a "tooth" to the threads, and
since there is no strain or vibration on the screw, the wax adds a little
holding power and usually won't back out. Also bar soap will do the same
thing, and washes off easier when next you take the screw out. When you oil
the rod with a pin oiler, the oil won' t affect the wax. Just a thought.
