Since I live in Boulder, I feel qualified to speak to this point.
The city proper, is at about 5,200 to 5,500 feet. However, the foothills
which are adjacent to the city quickly rise to 7,000 feet or higher.

I've lived in this area all my life, and have never noticed that reeds
play differently than at lower/higher elevations. :-) However, it is
hardly surprising, given that other pressure dependent things behave
a bit differently here too.

Now, perhaps we need someone to develop reeds with an inflatable bladder
to control the stiffness. They should be over priced, and have some
logo displayed promently on them, and endorsed by famous musicians. :-) :-)
