I would have like to have been a bass major myself, but from what I've
been told, you can't get a playing job with a bass clarinet degree. You
can with a clarinet degree with bass emphasis, but nevertheless, bass
clarinetists are expected to have clarinet degrees.

At least from what I've heard.

Get her on the clarinet ASAP. She can focus on the bass, that's fine, but
she'll need the clarinet skills as well, whether she's performance or
education.
