I think we should be willing to accept a somewhat lower standard for e-mail
than we might wish to uphold for publication. Typos will slip through now
and then, and if we don't have the dictionary readily at hand it is
unlikely to cause the destruction of the universe. So until e-mail
programs universally include spell-checkers and grammar-checkers, I vote,
even against my own idealized vision of a grammatically perfect world, that
we continue to allow errors in postings, even while we privately deplore
them. Just remember that our written expression is the only way we can
present ourselves in a forum like this. If we appear uneducated in our
writings, our opinions will consequently be devalued by the readers. In
short, let's just do the best we can, shall we?
