I would like to put my two cents.
When I won the auditions for the National Sinphony/Brazil I was 23
years.
In Brazil a lot of things are diferent for another countries.
Here we have only few students and youth orchestras. So when
somebody so young won an audition like me the Director have to say: "I bet
on this guy"(or not).
He could be wrong but he doesn't have a lot of choices.
I play clarinet since 1985. Since it my audition was the only one
for principal in entire Brazil until today.
I had a lot of dificulties on the first year: the people didn't
trust me. But, with the time, the people change their minds. They could see
that the "young boy" could suport the resposabilities of the position.
I think it can happens with everybody.
Now here we have a new Assistent Principal(and Bass Clarinet) he is
21 years. His audition was terrific.
I think that you have to trust on each talent you find without think
on age.
