I seriously doubt most conservatory entrance juries are interested in hearing
an applicant play on a c clarinet or a bassett clarinet. I suspect they would
like to hear a solid approach to musical and clarinet fundamentals; rhythm,
intonation, technique, style, expressive capability.

If you were to walk into a freshman audition with a c clarinet, but showed
weakness in any of the above areas, it would help you none. Likely, it would
earn you ridicule from the judges (after you had finished the audition, I
mean).

Whether or not you choose to buy and use the d and c clarinets, the skill of
transposition at sight into various keys is a necessary one for a professional
musician. The sooner you learn to do it, the better. I don't think it is
something that would come up at a college audition, but anything is possible,
I suppose.
