No, it's a musician thing. This nickname for the Eb clarinet has been
around far longer than any of us on this list. There was a novelty
composition for band, probably from the 1920's or 30's called "Eefer's
Holiday" or "Eefer's Revenge" or something like that.

In a world such as we live in today, where people seem to be so
hyper-sensitive about the slightest perceived insult, it shouldn't be
considered surprising that someone would take umbrage over this informal
soubriquet. In my humble opinion, those who spend time worrying about
this have far too little to do, and have a very distorted sense of
perspective about the world's problems.
