Hi there!

Just a quick note,
my original questions were regarding audition procedure, and the
possibility of specializing on 2nd clarinet (because I prefer to play 2nd
in orchestra). Please do not infer that somehow 2nd isn't as good as
1st.... yes both players have to be equally matched.....- that wasn't my
main concern. I also was under the assumption that in an orchestra (like
mine) with assistant 1st and 2nds, that the assistant 1st would take the
1st parts and 2nd clar. would remain the same (in the event of an absent
1st). Am I in error?
I was only wondering if the audition materials detailed in the article by
Edward Palanker were indeed representative of 2nd clar. auditions. I also
was wondering if some people do specialize in 2nd clar. playing. Is it
possible? I've always felt that playing 2nd chair in an orchestra is a
very different job than playing 1st ..... not harder/easier/better/worse/
....just different in many ways.
Thank you
Line Ringuette
