Re music notation programms I am surprised no one has mentioned
Musictime Deluxe. It is a big seller here in Australia. It is
published by Passport. It also has midi capability.

It is the cheapest in the Passport range comprising "Rhapsody" and
"Encore" as well. It is quite powerful enough for me and is only $100
(US) If it is not powerful enough they will upgrade you for the price
differential.

Their email tech support was prompt when I had a problem with it. (too
many fonts installed)
