Date: Thu, 26 Mar 1998 04:11:59 -0500

Dear Klarinet List Members,

"Christie Lundquist, principal clarinetist for the Utah Symphony for the
past 21 years died in California Thursday [March 13, 1998] after a
lengthy illness.

"She was a superb artist," said Utah Symphony conductor Joseph
Silverstein. "It will be difficult for the orchestra to find a person
who will have a similar artistic impact."

Lundquist last performed with the symphony Dec. 20. In her long tenure
here, she established a reputation as a quality soloist, recitalist and
teacher. Composers Ingolf Dahl and Halsey Stevens composed works
specifically for Lundquist.

"The position of solo instrumentalist with a major symphony is a career
position," continued Silverstein. "This has had a great personal impact
on the whole orchestra."

Lundquist was a published poet. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and
tennis, and was a Christian Scientist.

The Utah Symphony wishes to endow the principal clarinet chair in her
name. Contributions can be made to the Utah Symphony, 123 W. South
Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84101, for the memorial fund.

A public tribute will be presented in the Abravanel Hall lobby April 3
at noon."

Quoted from the Salt Lake Tribune, Tuesday, March 17, 1998.

Christie was a wonderful lady and a fine musician. She performed many
times at ICA ClarinetFests, the last time in Lubbock last summer when
she performed Mozart's "parto! Parto! Ma tu ben mio" from La Clemenza di
Tito with Terry Hawkins, mezzo-soprano and the Festival Orchestra. She
will be missed.
