Most places nowadays charge a set fee for shipping/handling/postage.
Jeanne', for example, has a $4.00 fee for up to 5 (I think)
pieces of music. The two pieces I ordered from them the other day
ended up costing them $3.75 in postage, and some cost for the
padded envelope - which probably cost more than the $4.00 they charged.
It makes a lot of business sense to charge one reasonable fee for
some number of pieces rather than figuring out the cost of
postage, packing, and handling per item. Sometimes they win, sometimes
they lose, but _we_ should always try & order as much as we can
per order to maximize our benefit (pooling your orders with
friends and acquaintences is a great way to save money when mail
ordering music and/or odds and ends like reeds, swabs, cork grease,
cork, etc.).
